Searching for high quality threading solutions? GUHRING has simplified the task with the introduction of the tap compass color selection guide. Guhring has marked its standard taps with color rings to help you quickly and confidently choose the correct tool for your job. Each color ring relates to the unique machining behavior of different materials. So, by knowing the material you are tapping and the corresponding color ring, you can quickly navigate your way to the proper tap selection.
Yellow Ring taps are designed for general purpose applications that are encountered in a job shop environment. Materials from mild steel to aluminum can be successfully threaded with the Yellow Ring series of taps. Guhring also offers the unique MolyGlide® “non-stick” coating as a standard stock item on many Yellow Ring series.
Alloyed steels, stainless steel and some cast iron materials are just a few of the materials best suited for the Green Ring series of HSS-E taps. These taps are offered in both DIN and ANSI standard lengths in both TiN and TiCN coated standards.
Designed primarily for stainless steel applications, the Blue Ring series of taps are made from powdered metal cobalt and are extremely wear resistant. Blue Ring taps can also be used successfully in hardened steel and nickel alloy applications.
Red Ring series taps are specifically designed for high tensile strength steel applications where a robust flute and core design are preferable.
Cast Iron is the best application for White Ring taps but other non-ferrous abrasive materials can also be successfully tapped with the White Ring series of oxide and FIREX® coated taps.
Primarily used for wrought aluminum applications, the Black Ring series of taps provides extended tool life and high quality threads in high production environments.
Thread forming is becoming the preferred method of tapping in many applications. Form threads are stronger and cleaner than standard cut threads and are produced faster. Guhring offers a unique, high polish flute form on these HSS-E taps that dramatically increases tool life and thread quality.
Aerospace materials such as Inconel, Hastelloy, Waspaloy and Titanium are the most common materials tapped with the Ti/Ni series of taps. These powdered metal cobalt taps are designed to last longer in these hard to tap applications.
